Salvia officinalis

Sage, derived from the Latin word “salvere”, meaning “to save” has benefits historically known to “save” the users general health – both emotional and physical. In the Middle Ages, Sage earned the nickname “Sage the Savior”, while the Lakota Indians nicknamed it “master herb” for its cleansing and nerve tonic properties. It was believed that Sage Oil had a positive influence on the individual’s inner lifeforce, thus it was used in spiritual practices to cleanse the mind of negative self-talk. Aside from this, Sage is also known to eliminate toxins as well as is used to clear negative energy from a space.

Primary Benefits:

  • It serves as a stimulant to the nerves while promoting equilibrium, enhancing memory recall.
  • It regulates and stabilizes menstrual cycles as well as facilitates the function of the digestive system.
  • It has anti-microbial properties and is useful in treating cuts and wounds as well as addressing infections of the nose and throat.

Uses:

  • Use in a diffuser to increase mental stability, promoting a sense of attentiveness and enhancing memory.
  • In hot water, mix a few drops with lavender oil and make it into a compress to relieve menstrual cramps.
  • Mix a few drops into 10 ml carrier oil for a relaxing massage oil.
  • Add a few drops to your bath salts for a fresher and more invigorating bath time.
  • Mix a few drops with 2 tbsp carrier oil as cold lotion.

Children over 7 years & Elderly:

1% dilution (1 drop of Sage Oil per teaspoon of carrier oil; 6 drops per ounce)

Adults:

2% dilution (2 drops of Sage Oil per teaspoon of carrier oil; 12 drops per ounce)

Diffusion:

Diffuse 2-3 drops for mental clarity, stability and relaxation as well as to soothe discomforts of digestive, respiratory and female reproductive systems.

Topical:

Use 3-4 drops of Sage oil diluted in 1 tbsp of carrier oil and massage into scalp twice a day for healthier hair.

Cautions:

  • Women who are pregnant, in labour or breastfeeding should avoid using sage oil.
  • Avoid using if you have epilepsy, high blood pressure or hysteria.
  • Children who are under 7 years old are advised to avoid using Sage oil. Please use in recommended dilution ratios when used on children older than 7 years old.
  • Make sure to do a patch-test 24 hours before usage in case of allergic reactions. Only use the oil when there are no adverse effects.
