Lavender is the most versatile of all essential oils. Often associated with the famous purple fields of Provence, Lavender, also known as true lavender, is an ornamental plant native to Mediterranean. Lavender derived its name from the Latin “lavare” meaning “to wash.” Romans used lavender to scent their bath, clothes and hair apart from discovering its medicinal properties. Lavender flowers are popular for its sedating effects that work by soothing and calming the nervous system as well as alleviating stress, fatigue, and anxiety. Lavender also serves as an effective germ-fighting oil that combats cold sores, itchy skin and acne.
