Mentha x piperita L.

If you were fond of the red-and-white striped candy when you were a child (or even now!), you already have encountered peppermint. Peppermint is a hybrid mint, a cross between spearmint and water mint. Its oil is extracted from the leaves—which is one of the oldest medicinal herbs used in European, Chinese, and Japanese traditional medicine. Archaeologists have even found dried peppermint leaves inside the ancient Egyptian pyramids. Nowadays, this useful and versatile plant is utilized in dental care, skin care and for weight loss.
